...they're coming to
Sydney...
Imagine this - The vocalist (wearing a big green coat) is going INSANE, the violinist and bass player are dressed as China dolls, while two painters work on a huge mural at the back of the stage. RAVE magazine called it a "manic, ferocious performance...". z00:g manages to get hold of Jamie Barrett, lead singer of Brisbane band The Red Paintings, , and has the shortest and strangest interview to date...look out kids, they're comin' to Sydney...
Sydney Gothic: Love the band's look, what's the inspiration behind it?
Jamie:
The
return of Hitler, Leonardo Divinci, the invasion of aliens and the return
of the Japanese to take over the world (during this time the red paintings
will be traveling in a UFO towards Pluto)
Sydney Gothic: What sort of paint do the painters use?
Jamie:
Anything and everything we can get our hands on even
human flesh.

Sydney Gothic: What's your favourite brand of eyeliner? (I'm serious - eyeliner is as important to ROCK as how many inches elevate your platforms!)
Jamie:
That's a hard question, were sponsored by
Maybeline so pretty much what ever they send us.
Sydney Gothic: Do you get tired of people always asking you about the name?
Jamie:
No not at all, it creates alot of interest and i
like that because its about something real. Hey it beats being asked "so
why are you called Area 7?".
Sydney Gothic: I know this question sucks, but how would you describe your sound?
Jamie:
Mmm well I'd say its best described as Brett Whitley
painting the face of bjork on a piece of old dusty canvas whilst listening
to Atari Teenage Riot dressed as a geisha doll and spewing up chunks of
carrot into Trent Reznor's mouth. That pretty much sums up The Red
Paintings' sound!
